Essay: Early African-American Reaction to Modernism

It's art related, so I figure it can go here.

An older research paper I wrote; Modernism interests me.

"Falconry Hoods"

pencil.

Hood "#4" is based on one hanging on the wall of Norman Rockwell's studio. I had been drawing these prior to visiting, and was surprised to see one hanging there on the wall during the brief tour.

"Oriole & California Valley Quail"

~7.5" x 12", gouache.

After the last oriole, a friend asked me to make her one (she's
from Baltimore). So, I made this for her and her girlfrien, who is
from California (hence the cute little California Valley Quail).

They are both women, these are the male forms of these birds, and such is love. I remembered to scan as I went along. Here's to a happy couple.

"Tiger Haven 2008"

~12"x12". gouache, pencil.

This is the cd label for this years charity mix album to benefit the Tiger Haven animal sanctuary. Each year has put this together and I've been lucky enough to have been asked to make the circular label design.

It's painted on an old palette. I keep them if they are interesting or look useful.

The surface isn't porous like paper or wood, it's like painting on a kitchen countertop. Which means that the image is particularly fragile and will just wipe right off.

Those of you keeping score might recognize that I did just that. This used to be the "Zora" image that I made for homework in my experimental class. I wet my hand, wiped the older image into a smudge and reworked it into this one. I'll be spraying it with polyurethane to seal it.

Paper Pals: "Lucky"

Made a new Paper Pal for the next set, which will be 'barnyard' animals like a goat, and cow, etc. The other Paper Pals are here. Going to try to shop them around town now for venues, wish me luck!
